Paul's lips barely formed a smile in return as he saluted Nathan with his glass. He didn't expect Paul to approach him, but he secretly hoped he would. That salute told him to stop hoping. This was the Paul he remembered. The guy was full of himself and disdainful of everyone else. Their fuck on the beach might have been hot, but Paul's heart was totally fucking cold.

Nathan took a big gulp of his champagne and finished off the glass. Setting it down, he slowly moved on to greet some people he kind of knew. He engaged in some mindless chatter and tried to wipe the cold look in Paul's eyes out of his mind. Once he was standing alone, Nathan looked around trying to find someone who looked better to him than Paul or at least nicer.

To console himself after that snub, Nathan reached for the last glass of champagne on a tray. Before he could get it, a strong, masculine hand snatched it away. Nathan turned a withering look on the perpetrator of the champagne snatch and grab, and found himself staring into Paul's blue eyes.

Without taking his eyes off Nathan, Paul took a sip of champagne then said, "Did you want some?" He offered the glass to Nathan, who only glared at him.

Asshole. He knew that would turn him on. Nathan couldn't help thinking of the taste of his kiss. Before he knew it, Paul had put the drink in his hand and walked away. Nathan set it down angrily on the nearest table. The asshole was playing with him. Paul had gone off to stand with a group listening to a balding guy telling a funny story about water-skiing or hang gliding or something. While Paul ignored him, Nathan couldn't take his eyes off the gorgeous, blond jerk.

Taking a deep breath and trying to push down the feeling of frustration, Nathan looked around for anything that might take his mind off Paul. The view out the window caught his eye. All he could see were city lights and a black sky. He went toward the window as if mesmerized. Further down, he saw a set of glass doors leading to a balcony.

Trying the balcony door, he found it was unlocked. As soon as Nathan stepped outside, a strong gust of wind almost knocked him back. High up like this, the wind was stronger and colder too. He braced himself and went out, closing the smooth and almost silent door behind him.

Standing out there, pulling his jacket closer around him, Nathan felt a little better. The view of the city stretching out below put things in perspective for him, and he already felt less out of place. After all there were a lot more people out there who were like him than the ones back at the party. So what if he wasn't in the same league as Paul or Turner. He could look at a gorgeous view or a gorgeous man without having to belong to some exclusive club.
